Fiction For Adults
Certain unsavory elements within society have made it tricksy to term novels written for older or more advanced readers "adult fiction." The same, I suppose applies to non-fiction titles for adults. Be that as it may, here are four new fiction titles for adults. All four titles are Rotation items, which means they will be at this library through February and then move on to another West Marin library.
Oracle Night by Paul Auster Fiction Auster (Rotation)
Gilligan's Wake by Tom Carson Fiction Carson (Rotation)
The Fourth Queen by Debbie Taylor Fiction Taylor (Rotation)
The Salt Roads by Nalo Hopkinson Science Fiction Hopkinson (Rotation)
[I think it may be doing this title a disservice by classifying it as science fiction. But then I have not read it (or the reviews).]

Not Fooling About This Non-Fiction
Two very fine juvenile non-fiction titles arrived this week. In both cases I will quote from reviews right here in this post.
The Best of Times: Math Strategies That Multiply by Greg Tang J 513.2 Tang
From School Library Journal: "Gr 3-4-A multiplication book that really adds up. Snappy rhymes and problems to solve, going from 0 to 10, with one number per spread, offer valuable strategies that will help develop number sense."
Muhammad by Demi J Bio Muhammad
From Publisher's Weekly: "This timely, exceptionally handsome biography serves as an excellent introduction to Islam. Ages 7-10."

Nothing Juvenile About These Fiction Titles
Well, actually, they are considered "juvenile fiction," which means that they are written primarily for elementary and early middle school children. But that does not mean they are not well-written or engaging stories. Here are five titles that have recently arrived at the library.
The Puppeteer's Apprentice by D. Anne Love J Fiction Love
The Slightly True Story of Cedar B. Hartley (who planned to live an unusual life) by Martine Murray J Fiction Murray
Cold Tom by Sally Prue J Fiction Prue
The Boy Who Saved Baseball by John H. Ritter J Fiction Ritter
[If you want to read about the real boy (OK, OK, it is a fantasy novel!) who saved baseball, you need to read Summerland by Michael Chabon.]

Little Lit
Little Lit is a fascinating series that started a few years ago. A number of alternative cartoon artists contribute to, in effect, cartoon short stories. Many of the illustrators mimic older - early 20th Century - comic books styles. The stories are often off-beat, but the illustrations are captivating. Here is the latest:

Donations
The San Geronimo Valley Library does not, generally, encourage donations. We do not have the staffing or public interest (in buying) to handle many donations.
That is true of books, mostly.
Donations of videos (in good condition, in their original packaging), DVDs, music CDs and, if available, unabridged audio books, are another matter. There is a continuing and growing interest in these types of materials at libraries and the San Geronimo Valley Library is no exception. The videos listed below are an example.

Hey, -mon!
A (relative) treasure trove of Pokemon and Digimon videos arrived today!
I won't create links as I do with most other videos. These were all donations from a generous (and perhaps relieved) local patron. They are much appreciated.
Pokemon Titles:
Thunder Shock!
Poke-Friends
The Sisters of Cerulean City
Digimon Titles:
A New Digitude
Battle with Piedmon

There is a new wire frame display on the kids side of the library where new and seasonal kids books will be displayed. It sits on the floor by the J Fiction section and has 7 rows for displaying books face out.
And, yes, "kids" includes teens. Deal with it. ;-)
